THIRD LOCAL PUBLIC SCREENING:
KILLING CHRISTIAN RETURNS TO UAB: THURSDAY, MARCH 9, 2006

We had first visited June Mack's Film Club at UAB back in the early days of pre-production to look for interested crew members. We returned, bringing a rough cut to the film for an invitation only screening during the summer of 2005 to get some very helpful feedback that resulted in several cuts and enhancements to the film. So it was only natural that we brought the finished film back to UAB for one last local public screening, and we did on March 9 of 2006. We also used the occasion to talk about the whole process of making the film. Director Jason O'Brien began the evening at 7:00 talking about the film, and some of the war stories from the making of it, through the current process of finding play at festivals and finding distribution. It was a real stormy night in Birmingham this night, but a few of the faithful made it out, and we had an audience of many people who were seeing the film for the first time. We screened the film, and then it was followed by a 15 minute new presentation that Jason O'Brien had edited together, that showed some of the funniest bloopers from the production, as well as some various behind the scenes shots, including the very trying night of trying to film scenes with drunk extras. A brief Q&A session followed.

FIRST FILM FESTIVAL SCREENING (SOUTHERN FRIED FLICKS FILM FESTIVAL IN AUGUSTA, GA):
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2006 (PICTURES HERE!)

The first film festival that selected Killing Christian was the Southern Fried Flicks Film Festival, holding its second annual festival, January 10-14, 2006 in Augusta, Georgia. Director Jason O'Brien and his wife Melissa made the short trip over from Birmingham to attend the festival, and Jason filed a brief report along with some pictures, reflecting back on the first festival showing for the film, and the first time the film screened outside the state of Alabama. SECOND LOCAL PUBLIC SCREENING:
KILLING CHRISTIAN RETURNS TO SAFARI CUP: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2005

We were very excited to be able to return to one of the locations we filmed at, Safari Cup Coffee in downtown Birmingham, to hold a much smaller, more intimate gathering to screen the film. Safari Cup had recently begun a new experiment to hold monthly independent film nights utilizing their brand new, state of the art theater system, and we were honored to be able to return to a shooting location to screen the film. It was a small gathering, including some of our crew who hadn't yet seen the film, as well as some people seeing it for the first time. Director Jason O'Brien gave a very brief introduction to the film, recalling the filming experience at Safari Cup, which occurred on a Saturday morning after having had filmed all the way through the previous night with no sleep. Many thanks to Dave McLaughlin at Safari Cup for his help and enthusiasm for providing a new way to bring independent films to the city of Birmingham.

FIRST PUBLIC SCREENING:
THE WORLD PREMIERE IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2005 (
PICTURES HERE!)

The world premiere of KILLING CHRISTIAN became a huge local event, premiering the film in our home town where the film was shot and produced. We held the screening at the Regal Galleria 10 Theater in Birmingham, in their largest theater. We sold it out, welcoming a crowd of nearly 500 people to see the film for the first time on a big screen! It was an amazing experience to be able to premiere the film in front of a hometown crowd just two years after the initial concept for the film had been rolling around in the heads of the screenwriters. Director Jason O'Brien introduced the film with some brief remarks about what filmmaking meant to him, concluding with a special personal thank you to the sold-out crowd for "making an 11-year-old's long time dream even greater than he had always imagined." Screenwriters Laura Mullins and Jason Kendall then came up to make some brief remarks, followed by the showing of the film. The screening received an enthusiastic response, and the crowd delivered a very surprising but very moving standing ovation at the end. Director O'Brien then invited up various cast and crew members for some final words and a brief Q&A session. For a look at some pictures from that evening, CLICK HERE!
